This is a smaller battery operated car at only 1:24 scale it measures in at barely over 8" in length and 3 inches wide. Small things do come in small packages as is quickly apparent once you look further into this 1961 - 1962 Buick Invicta Station Wagon (based on design). Featuring forward / reverse and working headlights, this finely detailed two-tone automobile was made by the leader in this market segment Bandai.
Station wagons were as popular back in the 1960s just as Mini-vans and SUV's (Minivans with regular doors instead of sliding doors) are today. The room for all the family and their luggage for a 2 week car vacation to visit a theme park on the other end of the country was after all one of the American Dreams (or so the makers of these large cars wanted customers to believe). In reality these cars were also best at grocery runs and taking the entire junior baseball team down to the park.
Back to this Buick station wagon we have to appreciate the attention to detail, the acrylic rear window but no side windows to obstruct you view of the interior litho. The front wheels are "steerable" and the headlights shine a nice glow in front. They are fairly bright as somehow Bandai designers managed to get Two (2) D-cell batteries to fit inside this tiny car. Nice!!!
