It’s a barrier … it’s a flashing light … it’s BOTH!!! 

Fueled by two penlight (AA) batteries the yellow bulb atop this road barrier takes about a minute before it goes into the advertised “flashing” mode. “Have Fun with Toy Cars, Trucks” and “Great with Construction Equipment” are solid suggested uses found on the box.

There are three (4) known variations of this toy:

1. (Exhibit 1349)  Yellow Barrier, Black folding legs, and “DANGER” in black text on both sides (shown above).

2. (Exhibit 1490)  White Barrier, Black folding legs, and “DANGER” in black text on both sides (photo not available).

3. (Exhibit 1491)  Red Barrier, Black folding legs, and “STOP THE WAR” in black text on one side and “BRING OUR BOYS BACK FROM CANADA” on the other side.   An obvious political statement about the Vietnam war … very unusual to see in a child’s toy but indicative of how deeply people felt about the Vietnam War.  

4.  (Exhibit 1492)  Red Barrier, Black folding legs, and "WAR" in white text on one side and "Manufactured, Financed, & Distributed by U.S. Army" on the other.  Not sure if the polical differences between 3 and 4 are more sad or funny but certainly these are signs of the time.   We can assume the Winslow Mfg company didnt care.

Special Note:  Three of these came with factory hand painted yellow light bulbs, but the "Stop the War" barrier came with a hand painted red light bulb.  Special order or did they run out of yellow paint?
